Professional Qualifications

Restricted Operator’s Certificate for the GMDSS (ROC)

This qualification is required for Captains and Officers in charge of the navigational watch on civil vessels subject to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System in Sea Area A1.

Port Skipper

This qualification entitles the holder to act as Skipper on merchant ships with a gross tonnage not exceeding 100 GT, operating no more than 3 miles from a port and carrying a maximum of 150 passengers.

Specialty Certificates

Basic Safety Training

This certificate is the minimum requirement and is mandatory for all personnel forming part of the ship’s crew who perform professional maritime duties.

Security Awareness Training

This is required for all crew members of merchant ships that must comply with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code and who do not hold a Ship Security Officer Certificate.

Passenger Ships (Ro-Ro)

This certificate is required for Captains, Deck and Engine Officers, and Ratings or personnel with emergency duties who provide direct service to passengers.

Professional Yacht Skipper (PPER)

This allows for the command of recreational vessels registered under lists six or seven, with a length of up to 24 meters, along the Spanish coast and up to 60 miles parallel to it.

Advanced Firefighting

This is required for Captains and Deck and Engine Officers of merchant ships, as well as crew members of tankers who must hold a Tanker Familiarization Certificate for oil, chemical, or gas tankers.

Elementary First Aid

This is required for all officers in charge of an engineering watch, and for Captains, Skippers, and Officers in charge of a navigational watch on vessels required to carry Medical Chest C.
