Passenger Ships (Ro-Ro)

Possession of the Passenger Ship Specialization Certificate will be required for Captains, Deck and Engine Officers, and Seafarers or personnel with emergency functions who provide direct service to passengers in designated areas on passenger ships and roll-on/roll-off passenger ships.

This certificate will not be required for the crew of passenger ships whose national cabotage routes operate within port areas or rivers without going out to sea.

Buques de Pasaje (Ro-Ro)

This certificate will not be required for the crew of passenger ships whose national cabotage routes operate within port areas or rivers without going out to sea.

The course duration is 32 hours, of which 24 hours are theoretical content and 8 hours are practical content. The course is in-person. Only 10% absence from theoretical hours is permitted. The practical part must be completed in its entirety.

The Passenger Ship Specialization Certificate will be valid for 5 years and will include the expiration date.

To prevent the certificate from expiring, it is important to renew it at any maritime authority office before the expiration date. To renew the Passenger Ship Specialization Certificate, one of the following requirements must be met:

  1. Have 3 months of sea service in the last year of the certificate, performing related duties.
  2. Have 1 year of sea service within the 5 years of the certificate, performing related duties.

Once the Passenger Ship Specialization Certificate has expired, an 8-hour Refresher Course must be completed, without the need to take the full course again.
