The maintenance of competence course for the Basic Safety Training certificate of proficiency shall be based, at a minimum, on the standards of competence required to assume the tasks, duties, and responsibilities in the areas indicated in Section A-VI/1.3 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW), as amended, and its Code, as well as the requirements detailed in the IMO model course.
Basic Safety Training Refresher
Therefore, practical tests must be conducted to demonstrate continued compliance with the standards of competence for the Basic Safety Training certificate. These tests will evaluate the participants’ competencies and must be completed with a satisfactory result.
Essential requirement: To hold the Basic Safety Training certificate or title that must be renewed upon expiry.
Course duration: 16 practical hours.
The course is in-person and must be completed in its entirety.
