PNB Course

Description

Authorisations:

• The Basic Navigation Skipper (PNB) certificate authorises you to skipper recreational craft up to 8 m in length and for coastal navigation up to a maximum distance from the coast of 5 nautical miles. This nautical qualification allows for daytime and night-time navigation. In addition, if you hold the Basic Navigation Skipper certificate, you may operate any type of jet ski.

Requirements to obtain the P.N.B.:
To obtain this nautical qualification, no prior qualification is required. You must be over 18 and pass a medical examination. If you are 16 and have parental authorisation, you may sit the exam. To be issued the certificate, you must meet the following requirements:

• Pass the corresponding theory exam.
• Complete 8 hours of basic safety and navigation practical training.
• Complete a 4-hour practical radio communications course.

Online Course includes:

• Management of exam registration with the administration.

In-Person Course includes:

• Management of exam registration with the administration.
• Materials and “welcome pack”
• In-person training approx. 20 h.
• Safety and Navigation practical training 8 h.
• Radio communications practical training 4 h.

Optional:

• Sailing Endorsement. 16 hours of practical training, and authorises you to sail on sailing boats. It is taken only once and is valid for subsequent courses (PER, PY and CY).

Students who sit the exam to obtain the PER and do not pass, but have passed the subjects common with the PNB, will be granted a pass for the PNB.
