Basic Training in Maritime Security

The Certificate of Specialization in Basic Training in Maritime Security will be required for all crew members of merchant vessels that must have the Ship and Port Facility Security Certificate, and who do not hold the Ship Security Officer Certificate. This certificate includes training, instruction, and competency standards to raise awareness of aspects related to maritime security.

The course duration is 12 hours, of which 9 hours are theoretical content and 3 hours are practical content. The course is in-person. Only 10% absence from theoretical hours is permitted. The practical part must be completed in its entirety.

The Certificate of Specialization in Basic Training in Maritime Security will be valid for 5 years and will contain the expiration date.

To prevent the certificate from expiring, it is important to renew it at any maritime authority office before the expiration date. To renew the Certificate of Specialization in Basic Training in Maritime Security, it is necessary to meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Have 3 months of sea service in the last year of the certificate, performing duties related to it.
  2. Have 1 year of sea service in the 5 years of the certificate, performing duties related to it.

 

Once the Certificate of Specialization in Basic Training in Maritime Security has expired, an 8-hour Refresher Course must be taken, without the need to take the complete course again.

The program complies with the Official Resolution of June 18, 2013 (Manila Amendments 2010), of the Directorate General of the Merchant Marine, which updates and modifies the training courses and their programs, included in Order FOM/2296/2002 of September 4, in compliance with the STCW 78/95 Convention.
