The Advanced Firefighting Certificate of Proficiency will be valid for 5 years and will include the expiry date.

To prevent the certificate from expiring, it is important to renew it at any Maritime Captaincy before the expiry date. To renew the Advanced Firefighting Certificate of Proficiency, it is necessary to meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Have 3 months of sea service in the last year of the certificate, performing duties related to it.
  2. Have 1 year of sea service within the 5-year validity of the certificate, performing duties related to it.

Once the Advanced Firefighting Certificate of Proficiency has expired, an 8-hour Refresher Course must be completed, without the need to take the full course again.

The programme complies with the Official Resolution of 18 June 2013 (Manila Amendments 2010) of the Directorate-General of the Merchant Marine, which updates and amends the training courses and their syllabuses set out in Order FOM/2296/2002 of 4 September, in compliance with the STCW 78/95 Convention.
