The purchase-sale of a recreational vessel is subject to the settlement of the property transfer tax. This tax, known as ITP, has a value calculated as a percentage that <strong>depends on each autonomous community<\/strong>. Thus we have Galicia where only 1% of the contract price is paid, and at the other extreme we have Andalusia and the Valencian Community where the tax value can be levied at up to 8%.   <\/p>\n<p>To calculate the transfer tax, two references can be used. On one hand, the purchase-sale value stated in the <strong>contract<\/strong>. However, if the boat is listed in the annual publication issued by the Tax Office with average vehicle prices, this price indicated by the Tax Administration can be applied and the tax calculated with the <strong>depreciation<\/strong> established by regulation. We do this every time we receive a boat for ownership transfer, in which case we first check if it is listed by the Tax Agency, and otherwise we settle at contract price.   <\/p>\n<p>However, remember that if the seller is a company, <strong>ITP is not settled<\/strong> according to contract, but rather the selling entity will have to issue an invoice with the corresponding tax (VAT, REBU&#8230;).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Port_Authority_fees\"><\/span>Port Authority fees<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once the property transfer tax has been settled, the ownership transfer of the vessel can begin in the <strong>maritime registry<\/strong>. However, the first step is to know the <strong>boat&#8217;s registration<\/strong>. Keep in mind that recreational vessels registered in Spain have a bow marking that begins with 6\u00aa (if for commercial use) or 7\u00aa (if for private use). If the registration does not have this prefix, it may be registered in another country, such as Poland. And the procedure and <strong>cost of ownership transfer<\/strong> will be different.    <\/p>\n<p>There are vessels that <strong>do not pay fees<\/strong> for their procedures before the Maritime Administration. These are boats that are enrolled. And they are identified by their registration, which contains no letters, only numbers. However, <strong>boats that are registered<\/strong> do have to pay fees when <strong>requesting ownership transfer<\/strong>. These fees are established by the Government and are updated annually. The Port Authority <strong>fees<\/strong> correspond to entries in the Record sheet, issuance of a new Navigation permit or Exchange of the Certificate of seaworthiness, among other documents; these being the most common. The cost of the ownership transfer would be around \u20ac240 (indicative price valid as of the publication date of this article). However, each ownership transfer case is unique, because there are owners who want to <strong>change the boat&#8217;s name<\/strong> or the <strong>navigation zone<\/strong> or some other aspect.
